I would seriously have to say my refuge would be school and clothing stores.I actually wish I had at least a little corner where I can have peace and quite for 5min. I have a one year old who spend the whole day running, climbing and crying. I consider school and clothing store my refuge because its actually the only time I have to myself. While I'm in school I get to sit down in the library where its very peace full and it gives me time to think. When I'm shopping it really relaxes me and takes absolutely everything out of my head. These two places are similar to the cafe in the story "A clean, Well lighted Place" by Ernest Hemingway because its my own refuge where I feel I have time to myself.

Gender Criticism

"The Chrysanthemums" by John Steinbeck is a short story in where the author uses gender criticism. Throughout the story Steinbeck symbolizes women as weakness. The story is mainly about a married couple who work and live in a farm. The man who is portrayed as the "strong" figure and does the hard job like working out in the fields. The women who is portrayed as "weakness" work gardening the flowers. At one point in the story the husband admires the way she gardens so well and how she would do such a great job out in the field but never puts her to the job because she's a women and women are "weak". Meanwhile in the story Steinbeck describes her as a "blocked and heavy" women who will certainly be able to do work in the field like she her self would like to.

Hero by Maria Carey is a beautiful song that has heart touching lyrics and a song you'll want to listen to when you have those gloomy days. I personally love this song it gives me strength and let you know everything and anything is possible when you put your mind to it.

To me class so far has been pretty good. In my ENG 101 class we wrote a couple of essays throughout the semester and we never did blogs or anything like that, so this is new to me. I would certainly rather do blogs than writing essays (even though this is the first blog I actually done) I think essays are stressful and you have to put too much time and work into them. For me personally yes, knowing that other read my blog makes me want to be more careful in what I write. Reading other peoples blogs gives me idea of what they think. To be honest I've always had a little trouble with literary analysis like irony, simile, metaphor... I really thought ENG 102 was going to be very challenging. I thought this required a lot of poem reading (which I really don't like) and about a thousand essays and papers to be done.
